XipLink Announces Wireless Optimizer software integration with Lufthansa Technik

XipLink today announced that Lufthansa Technik has completed integration of XipLink Embedded (XE) wireless optimization software on their Mobile Access Router.

October 13, 2008 (Montreal, QC) – Xiplink, the technology leader for standards based protocol acceleration and data compression over wireless networks, today announced that Lufthansa Technik has completed integration of XipLink Embedded (XE) wireless optimization software on their Mobile Access Router. Simultaneously, Satcom Direct has developed an aircraft broadband service offering based on the Lufthansa Technik and XipLink technology.

Lufthansa Technik supplies the Network Integrated Cabin Equipment system that includes wireless passenger access to the Internet at speeds ranging from 64 Kbps to more than 3 Mbps. The system includes an optimized high-speed router with embedded XipLink software that significantly increases, by a factor of 2x and higher, the available bandwidth to each aircraft and operates over both L-Band and Ku-Band satellites.

By using integrated software optimization from XipLink, Lufthansa Technik has enhanced functionality to the Mobile Access Router without the need to consume precious cabin space or burden the aircraft with additional weight. This software is also available for current users of the MAR via a software upgrade

In combination with the announcement of the optimized Lufthansa Technik MAR, Satcom Direct, an innovative leader in global satellite communications has also installed the XipLink XA-Series appliances in their teleport in support of the AeroX optimized service.

“We are excited to enable our networks with XipLink wireless optimization for Lufthansa Technik and any other XipLink equipped customers. Our AeroX service can deliver much higher throughputs and we can provision this service without the complexity we encounter using tunnel based enterprise accelerators,” said Howard Lewis of Satcom Direct.

End users connecting across the AeroX service that also use the remote XipLink software, whether embedded on a mobile device or when connecting across a XipLink appliance, are transparently optimized with no added software or configuration required on the end user’s PC. Typical users can experience 200% throughput gains and frequently much higher

“This announcement clearly demonstrates the breadth and scalability of the XipLink wireless optimization solution. Our kernel coded embedded software can be quickly integrated on mobile devices like the Lufthansa Technik MAR and is completely interoperable with any ground based XipLink XA appliance or other SCPS-based device. SatCom Direct has pre-enabled wireless optimization into the AeroX service by installing larger XipLink appliances in their core network”, says Jeffrey Weaver, Director of Technical Marketing at XipLink.

XipLink’s XE-Series embedded wireless optimization software operates in limited CPU and memory footprints on devices running BSD, Linux or Windows operating systems while the XA-Series wireless optimization appliances are performance matched with industrial computing engines, scaling from lower cost systems at 400Kbps to very high performance systems running at speeds up to 155 Mbps.
