XIPLINK Selected by ARINC SKYlinkTM for Bandwidth Optimization
Provides Maximum Capacity for Private Jets
November 14, 2007 (Montreal, QC and Annapolis, MD) – XipLink, the technology leader for standards based protocol acceleration over wireless networks, today announced that ARINC has successfully tested and deployed Xiplink’s Embedded (XE) acceleration system into their SKYlinkTM broadband communications platform for private jets and aircraft. The two companies have agreed to deploy XipLink in both the airborne control system and the satellite ground stations that manage worldwide internet access, resulting in multi-megabit download rates to users. The XipLink acceleration solution combines SCPS based acceleration with advanced data compression, Quality of Service and HTTP acceleration technologies.
Engineering teams from both ARINC and XipLink have been working jointly to integrate the XipLink acceleration technology with SKYlinkTM, starting with initial deployments in March of 2007. Now, with many successful installations operational, the combined solution allows ARINC customers several advantages such as:
• Continuous connection service under harsh conditions and rapid movement.
• Maintaining Broadband connection speeds at altitudes above 50,000 feet.
• Allowing seamless connections on inter-continental flights, across multiple beams.
• Dynamic compression, generating more wireless capacity for simultaneous users.
• Providing quick and efficient web browsing with XipLink HTTP Pre-Fetching.
• Efficient co-existence of simultaneous voice services, along with data flows.
• Utilization of Industry Standard SCPS allows long term investment protection.
“We looked closely at several products and companies before selecting XipLink, and have been very pleased with our decision,” said Bob Hanley, ARINC Vice President, Business Aviation Solutions. “Product support has been outstanding and performance in the field has met our expectations as well as that of our users.” "We are pleased to make a key contribution to support the seamless broadband services provided by ARINC,” said XipLink founder Charlie Younghusband. “This solution demonstrates the flexibility of XipLink to accelerate this mobile network by combining our appliances for the ground system with embedded XE Linux and Windows solutions for the aircraft networks.”
