XipLink Announces XipStick™ Portable Optimizer
Wireless Optimizer for Mobile Satellite Services
March 2, 2009 (Montreal, QC) – Xiplink, the leading provider of standards based wireless bandwidth optimization software and appliances, today announced the latest addition to its family of wireless optimizers, the XipStick™.
The XipSitck™ is a self-contained, palm-sized wireless optimizer that runs the latest XipLink Optimization Software (XipOS), version 2.7. The XipStick™ is installed between a remote PC and any Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) terminal while transparently optimizing the wireless bandwidth, often by a factor of 3x.

The XipStick™ delivers full access to XipLink’s kernel-coded protocol acceleration, streaming data compression and Internet optimization in a portable device with built-in IPSec.
All XipLink wireless optimization solutions are based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and Space Communication Protocol (SCPS-TP) standards and operate over any network topology - TDMA, Point to Point, Point to Multi-Point, Mesh or SCPC.
“The small and lightweight XipStick™ will dramatically improve TCP throughput on broadband connections, enabling significant new applications to be delivered over the MSS network for key markets such as military, media, construction, land-based exploration and, of course, most disaster recovery scenarios”, say’s Jack Waters, CEO of XipLink.
Measuring just 10 cm by 5 cm by 2 cm, the new XipStick™ portable optimizer is fully self-contained. A flexible USB cable is used to power the XipStick™ from the PC or through an optional DC power supply. Once the USB cable is unfolded two RJ-45 Ethernet jacks are exposed, a PC input and a wireless modem output.

“This latest addition to our product family can typically double the network capacity available to today’s broadband mobile satellite users. We were able to leverage our own XE embedded software solution to quickly bring this portable optimizer to market and did not compromise on any XipOS features”, says Charlie Younghusband, SVP Product Development at XipLink.
The XipLink solution includes the XA-Series of scalable appliances for installation at multi-user offices or at hub sites to transparently optimize hundreds of remote users, while the XE-Series of embedded software offers quick and easy integration of XipOS into BSD, Linux and Windows based devices.
XipLink’s XA-Series of appliances include a range of performance-matched industrial computing engines that scale from 2 Mbps and 50 connections to very high performance systems running at 155 Mbps and 30,000 simultaneous connections for the largest of installations.
